Sage Words o8.17.11

Quite a few people seem to have difficulty distinguishing between arrogance and self confidence in others. And given how often I read about or hear people labeling others as arrogant and to a lesser degree, confident, there seems to be quite a bit of interest around these concepts for whatever reasons.

Like many areas of and examples in life, I believe understanding ourselves is far more useful and beneficial than trying to understand others. I believe this is one of those cases here. That's where I place my own attention in this matter and that's where I will place my attention here in this post.

Here is my simple understanding regarding arrogance vs. self confidence. Those of us who frequently identify arrogance in others are likely projecting our own disowned or unacknowledged arrogance. Those who frequently identify confidence in others are likely able to do so simply because we have embraced our own acknowledged self confidence.

Some people really are arrogant, and there seems to be an over-abundance of arrogance among (mostly) White Gay activists. Seldom is it a "takes one to know one" situation. We'll have to agree to disagree on this point, Sage.

Oh no, we don't disagree on this. i know there are truly arrogant people out there and quite a few in the demographic you speak of, Don. This piece is written primarily from my wisdom teacher/teacher of conscious living voice which almost always has us looking within first though not to the total exclusion of seeing without as well...
